…JAZZ IN ST. MARY’S CHURCH – THURSDAY 9TH JULY
The singular songs of Walter Becker and Donald Fagen, aka Steely Dan, combine cryptic, pungent lyrics with sophisticated music deeply influenced by, in their own words, “the best jazz players of the ‘50s and ‘60s”. Steely Jazz (aka the Chris Ingham Quintet) re-examines the Dan canon in a poignant, edifying and exciting show, featuring tracks from the quintet’s acclaimed album Walter/Donald. Famous classics (“Rikki Don’t Lose That Number”, “Josie”, “Reelin’ in the Years”) juxtapose deep cuts from the nine Steely Dan albums 1972-2003 in a fresh, exciting celebration of two giants of 20th Century popular song.
